Taylor Swift makes biggest YouTube debut ever with new music video

31 August 2017

Pop star Taylor Swift set a record for most YouTube streams in a 24-hour period, generating 43.2 million views of her music video Look What You Made Me Do after its debut on Sunday night.

What's a thinly-veiled swipe at your tabloid nemesis worth?

The diamond-filled bathtub used in Swift's Look What You Made Me Do music video, an apparent jab at Kim Kardashian's Paris robbery, wasn't just handy prop work.

Those same reports claim that the bathtub diamonds cost more than $10 million, but given that a single necklace alone might cost several million bucks, an entire bathtub full of diamonds would cost hundreds of millions dollars if they were real. We're told an "insane" amount of security was involved.

Snake jewellery also features heavily in the music video itself. In addition, the song itself has been widely reported to be a Kanye West dis track.

Look What You Made Me Do is the first single from Swift's upcoming sixth studio album Reputation, which was announced last week. "I'm assuming what she means by [the title] is, 'You made me break every record, you made me out-sell everyone, you made me hire the best backup dancers in the world, you made me come out of a grave, you made me tilt a bunch of tombstones at one time, '" he explained.

Which has now broken records and generated over 72 million views on YouTube.

Besides the Kardashian bathtub antics, Swift's other targets in the clip include Tom Hiddleston's infamous "I heart TS" t-shirt, media obsession over her "squad" of Hollywood celebs and supermodels, and a tongue-in-cheek jab at her own previous personas.
