Andrew Luck 'unlikely' to play Week 1

06 September 2017

Luck was essentially allowed to play with a torn labrum in his shoulder for the entirety of the 2016 season, then underwent surgery in January. Tolzien has been working with the starters, but he had a sporadic training camp and preseason in leading the Colts to only 13 points in four preseason games. While it was encouraging that the Colts activated Luck off PUP and to the active roster Saturday, that doesn't indicate when he'll be ready for game action. Should Luck start the season on the PUP, he will be unable to play for the first six weeks of the campaign.

The Colts will likely struggle early this season without their starting quarterback running the offense, but Luck will be back in no time. "But let me be clear about it: in our own minds, it's something we haven't ruled out".

"I would say, again, the odds are most likely he probably won't open up against the Rams", Irsay said.

The Colts open the 2017 regular season on September 10 on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.

"Going into this year, you're going to see a lot of new faces. I kind of stay in my lane".

Owner Jim Irsay cast serious doubt on Luck's availability for the Rams game.

As for Luck, he was just as vague as Pagano and Irsay when asked about his possible return.

The Andrew Luck injury saga has provided an unhealthy amount of misery for Colts fans as they've been waiting on pins and needles all offseason long. "I'll be better coming out of it".

Luck's current five-year, $122.9 million deal takes him through 2021.
