"You, you've been an example to everyone, on how to age beautifully and with strength". I read that you said you felt you're not proud to admit that you've had work done. The chat was light and jovial-until it veered wildly off course, when Kelly asked Fonda about her plastic surgery.

As Kelly attempted to take another swipe at the question, telling her guest, "Well, one of the things people think about when they look at you, is how unbelievable you look.", Fonda quickly changed the subject, stating, "Thanks".

"We really want to talk about that now?"

After making an appearance in the much-awaited segment, Will & Grace star Debra Messing said she regrets having been a part of it. On Wednesday she welcomed actors Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, there to promote their new Netflix film, Our Souls at Night.

In January, Kelly announced on the air that she would be leaving Fox News to "pursue a new challenge", and her role on NBC decidedly represents such a challenge for Kelly.

In response to Kelly, Fonda credited her "good attitude, good posture", and taking care of herself as reasons for how she looks now.

"Is it true that you became a lawyer - and you became gay - because of Will?"

But Kelly couldn't take a hint and continued her line of questioning: "Well, one of the things people think when they look at you is how fantastic you look", she said.

"But I grew up so defined by my looks", she explained.

The comment wasn't just a compliment-though it made Fonda smile and put her at ease-it was also a call to embrace the moment and use her experience, rather than feel anchored by it.

After telling Turner that he won the tickets, Kelly added, "I don't know about the lawyer thing, but I think the Will & Grace thing and the gay thing is going to work out great".
