Priced at $50, it is the ideal device for those who would like to spice up their homes and at the same time, experiment with Google's voice commands.

Target is jumping into voice-activated shopping as it deepens its relationship with Google, offering thousands of items found in the store except for perishables like fruit and milk. The voice-command service also will be available soon via the Google Assistant function on eligible Android phones and iPhones.

The search - part of Target's deal with Google - follows a similar announcement by Pinterest regarding a deal in which the two companies will focus on developing products and services related to visual search.

A major flaw has been detected in the newly-unveiled Google Home Mini speaker that allows it to secretly record conversations without users knowing.

Official sale of the affordable assistant doesn't begin until later in October, so those affected will have received their faulty device at Google Home giveaways or press events.

"We're excited to offer this service nationwide in time for the busy holiday season", Mike McNamara, Target's chief information and digital officer, said in a statement Thursday. Its new direction in simply deactivating the touch feature for good is seen as either being at a loss on how to fix the issue or simply erring on the side of caution to stave off any bad rep of the new smart speaker.

A Google spokesperson confirmed the issue to CNN Tech and said it stems from the touchpad, known as the activation button, on the devices given to early reviewers. It's worth looking forward to, as it means you'll be able to take advantage of Target REDcard perks like 5% off all orders, free shipping, and, eventually, an option to pick up items you ordered through Google Assistant at a physical Target store within two hours of ordering. Nearly two out of three USA internet users shopped on Amazon in the second quarter, according to Wells Fargo analysts.
