Allardyce wants ex-Liverpool duo in Everton setup

01 December 2017

Everton have named former England boss Sam Allardyce as their manager on an 18-month contract, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

Lee is a supporter of Everton's bitter local rivals Liverpool and, as well as being a player for the Reds, he was once a part of the coaching staff at Anfield, arriving there in 2008 to serve as assistant manager to Rafa Benitez.

That faint odour you smell is the acrid stench of desperation emanating from Goodison Park (Edit: make that Finch Farm). But they have lost their last two matches 5-1 to Atalanta and 4-1 against Southampton, taking the tally of goals Everton have conceded this season in all competitions to 46.

Ronald Koeman left Everton in trouble
Ronald Koeman was sacked over a month ago

Everton are now two points above the relegation zone going into Wednesday night's match against West Ham.

With Everton being absolutely ugly at football this season under Ronald Koeman they decided that the threat of losing out on all that money was too great so they sacked him and spent a month trying to find the flawless manager.

Eventually Allardyce, who left Crystal Palace at the end of last season, became the frontrunner and he joins despite insisting in the past that only an worldwide job would bring him back into management.

His final game in charge was Wednesday's Premier League victory over West Ham at Goodison Park, which Allardyce watched from the stands.

Unsworth has won just two of his seven games in charge at Everton, but last night's win was a fine way to sign off. Unsworth is to take the team for tonight's match.

After years of being unable to come close to matching the financial clout of the Premier League's big guns, Everton finally had significant backing thanks to new owner Farhad Moshiri.

Everton's chief problem is clear to see.

Sam Allardyce wasn't Everton's first-choice pick to take over from the fired Ronald Koeman.

His achievements at the Stadium of Light - which look all the more impressive given what has happened since - earned him his dream job with England.
