Jimbo Fisher leaving FSU to become head coach at Texas A&M

02 December 2017

Fisher's angst started to play out publicly a few weeks ago when reports leaked out that he was interested in the Texas A&M job. Clemson's Dabo Swinney is now behind Saban ($8.5 million this year, average of $6.75 million over eight years).

The other good news is he will NOT coach in FSU's season finale against Louisiana-Monroe with longtime defensive line coach Odell Haggins giving the honor of leading the team.

If he's willing to turn his back on Florida State and its fans that easily, what's to say he won't do the same to Texas A&M when things get tough?

As I said, Fisher's tenure at FSU came to a nasty end and could have been easily avoided had he and the school communicated better.

Fisher spent eight seasons as the head coach at Florida State and guided the program to the 2013 national championship.

ESPN reported last week that several Florida State officials expected Fisher to leave and have been preparing to target his replacement.

Last December, Fisher signed a contract extension through 2024 that makes him among the highest-paid coaches in the country. "They spoke on condition of anonymity because neither Texas A&M nor Florida State has publicly discussed details of the Aggies coaching search". Oregon's Willie Taggart, former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and South Florida's Charlie Strong are options who might be considered.

"Obviously, he feels like it's the right move for him, I don't know", Swinney said when asked. I expect them to make a hire in the coming week or so whoever the new coach turns out to be.
