Meghan Markle's the star on royal debut

04 December 2017

Just four days ago they announced they're engaged to be married and already Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are at work.

Unlike the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the couple shared many moments of PDA, including holding hands and wrapping their arms around each other's backs.

The 81-year-old is well-known for handing bags of Haribo candies to Harry, and first presented his father, the Prince of Wales, with two bags - the other for brother William - 20 years ago. "It is rare for shows of public affection between William and Kate, but it does happen, for example, they held hands while hiking up to the Tiger's Nest Monastery in Bhutan".

Harry and Markle greeted people lining the streets in Nottingham on Friday.

As the couple met one person in particular, Harry was asked, "how does it feel being a ginger with Meghan?" to which he replied, "It's great, isn't it?"

Betty Parker, 78, from Sneinton, Nottingham, said "We love him", and of Ms Markle "She's beautiful".

Holly Burdett, who is originally from West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, but now lives in Sydney, Australia, flew back to the United Kingdom earlier this month on a "gamble" that the couple would announce their engagement.

When the joyous pair sat down together for their joint interview with the BBC on Monday, Markle expressed her excitement to join forces with Harry to do good. "After all, they are still in the honeymoon stage of their relationship!"

It didn't take long for Meghan Markle to take on her new royal duties. Though they spent plenty of time saying hello to fans side-by-side, Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, eventually parted ways to chat with bystanders individually.

Alison shouted "congratulations" as Prince Harry walked past, as host Ruth Langsford encouraged her to get his attention.
