Volunteers needed for kettle campaign in Maple Ridge

This Saturday, your contribution to one The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign will go a lot farther thanks to some generous donors.

Officials say more than 400 families need help this year, the event goes until Friday.

It's all to help surprise them come Christmas morning and take away the stress some families have when they can't afford gifts for their kids during the holidays.

"When they give at a red kettle, that money stays local", said Ruth Blick, director of community Resource development for Salvation Army Traverse City.

Kettle funds assist with the Salvation Army's Christmas needs but they are especially important in ensuring that they are able to meet the needs throughout the coming year.

"It's a feel-good for us, but it's a feel-good for people we see on the streets, that to know that we have all joined in to help, too", Flanagan said. It funds local Salvation Army programs throughout the year.
