Authorities say she was a wanted felon and car-theft suspect, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
"Something in the way she presented [herself] placed deputies in fear for their lives", Sheriff Salazar told reporters during a press briefing on Thursday.
The shooting happened on Thursday in the town of Schertz, just northeast of San Antonio.
"A round entered the trailer and a small boy was struck in the torso. She fell over and died at the scene".

Salazar said the suspect then ran away into the nearby woods after the deputy attempted to "give her some space".
"The grandfather of this young man, Kameron's grandfather, is a friend of mine for the past 20 years", Salazar said. Internal Affairs is still investigating it.
"Preliminarily, it appears that policies were complied with".
A manhunt led them to a mobile home park where the woman was shot while trying to break into a home. Deputies alleged that she was carrying a gun earlier in the chase.

"Those delegates all report in their announcements that she was grasping a question they trusted it to be a weapon at the time", Salazar said.
The suspect made her way into a second trailer park, and was seen by a dozen witnesses trying to enter trailers, physically threatening witnesses and causing them to believe she was armed. Salazar said the suspect was found on the front porch of a trailer home she was attempting to break into. The suspect was shot at least several times that we know of.
Kameron Prescott was killed when a stray bullet fired by Bexar County deputies struck him on December 21, 2017.
The four deputies involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave for five days.
"The suspect indicated to the deputies, "I have a weapon, I'm going to shoot you". "Officer-included shootings are sufficiently bad". Anthony Fritcher, 33, told the Express-News that he was closing the back door of his home at the trailer park when the front door was flung open and the woman walked in, demanding the keys to a Kia Soul parked in the driveway. The child was inside the home with several adults who were not hurt.
