Christmas celebrated with fervor and gaiety in Kerala

The devotees in all the churches lauded the communal brotherhood of Kashmir and prayed for peace and prosperity in Kashmir.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu participated at Christmas prayers, held in St Paul's Cathedral church, near Benz Circle here.

For people of many backgrounds, Christmas is an opportunity for families to gather together and celebrate warmth, good food and good company.

Pastors at both churches say it is important to remember that there is more to the Christmas holiday than just giving presents.

The Christian community in the metropolis on Monday celebrated Christmas with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.

Special cakes were cut and candies were distributed among the devotees.

Among the believers were tourists from different parts of the country and world who joined the locals on the auspicious day and prayed for world peace and brotherhood.

Other churches in the city including Saint Luke's Church and All Saints' Church, oldest church of Jammu Kashmir in north Kashmir's Baramulla, Saint Joseph's Church and Saint Mary's Church in Gulmarg witnessed similar gatherings.

The Tourism Department had made elaborate arrangements for making the festival grand lighting up lanterns and organizing cultural programmes.

The festive mood prevailed on the Christmas eve on Sunday where Christmas carols were held from night. It is a day set aside to recognize the birth of their Saviour, Jesus Christ, and to give thanks to God for the gift of salvation.
