Donald Trump seemed to forget the words to the United States national anthem

11 January 2018

As he took the field before Alabama and Georgia faced off in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the president was greeted by the tens of thousands in Atlanta with cheers and a smattering of boos.

Donald Trump Jr., the son of President Donald Trump, on Tuesday praised his father for showing "some respect" for the national anthem and the American flag.

Critics took glee in pointing out how Trump had railed against football players failing to respect the national anthem.

Just as grievance mongering goons have misappropriated the national anthem for their protests that are somehow deemed as the most pressing civil rights issue of our time, so have decent, patriotic Americans clung to the Star-Spangled Banner as a stirring tribute to the glory of the United States of America and a tribute to our military.

The president left the game shortly before halftime.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired?'" Trump said in August. Nearly made me cry. Televised footage of the match shows that the president while mouthing the lyrics, appears to sing some words wrong and pausing at some lines, though Trump could not be heard. "So unprecedented as far as I know", tweeted Vaughn Esham.

"Trump sings the national anthem the way the rest of us sing 'Despacito, '" Meyers quipped after a clip of the video rolled.

"There's plenty of space for people to express their views and to protest, but we love our flag and we love our anthem, and we want to keep it that way", he said.

Most of the players from Georgia and Alabama remained in their locker rooms during the anthem - though Alabama star running back Bo Scarbrough was caught on audio yelling "F-k Trump" in the tunnel at the Atlanta stadium before taking the field.

The Anthem was performed by the Zac Brown Band at Monday night's game. He later denied the comment.

After the supposed fumble, Josh Dawsey, a White House reporter who travels with the president, took to Twitter to give his take.

Some Twitter users cried hypocrisy against Trump for his tweets against players taking a knee and Colin Kaepernick but found it totally ridiculous when it appeared that Trump was rambling his way through "The Star-Spangled Banner".
