The England all-rounder's impending court case did little to affect his value as he was snapped up by Rajasthan Royals, although the figure does represent a decrease on the £1.7million Rising Pune Supergiant paid past year.

Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, retained Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah before the auction took place and also added Kieron Pollard and Pat Cummins to their ranks.

Kolkata Knight Riders shelled out Rs 9.40 crore to buy Mitchell Starc, one of the fastest bowlers in the world. And the CSK who had earlier retained MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina have managed to acquire Dwayne Bravo Bac and Faf du Plessis. Bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 2 crore in the auction on Saturday, Brathwaite, too, was a bargain buy by the Delhi franchise.

Stokes will be joined in the auction by his Test captain Joe Root and the likes of Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings and Sussex's Jofra Archer - the Barbadian-born all-rounder who could well force his way into England contention after serving his qualification period in county cricket.

Indian cricketer S Badrinath said, "Joe Roots is not IPL material but Chris Gayle and Hashim Amla not being unsold was a big surprise". Pandey was grabbed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 11 crore, while Rahul was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for the same amount. And R Ashwin was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.60 crores and finally moved from South to North.

McCullum was in the first group of batsman on offer, and was sold to Bangalore for 3.6 crore ($770,000), who fought off the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Daredevils for his services.

What are the player base prices? The teenager became an overnight star in his war-ravaged country past year when was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for $625,000.

Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan went to Chennai for his base price of Rs 2 crore as there were no other takers. He was a part of the Delhi Daredevils squad last season but didn't get a chance courtesy to Delhi's already experienced bowling attack.
