Auto Expo 2018 highlights: Electric Vehicles steal the limelight

The company is showcasing six electric vehicles in the Auto Expo here. Electric vehicles are expected to be the star attraction.

The mobility solutions include the UDO, a stylish two-seater electric pod concept; the ATOM, an urban mobility solution; the Treo, a lithium-ion battery powered electric three-wheeler; the e2o NXT, a refreshed version of the e2oPlus hatchback; the eKUV100, India's first electric mini SUV; and the e-Cosmo, the company's new electric bus.

The company also showcased its 2-seater electric auto - Uniti One - along side a virtual reality demonstration of the 5-seater vehicle. The concept vehicle symbolises Maruti Suzuki's commitment to helping develop the entire life-cycle of EVs in India, including local manufacturing of components, charging infrastructure and recycling of batteries, the company said.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which has also bagged orders for EVs from EESL, will showcase six new electric vehicles, including two futuristic concepts - a global aspirational SUV and a Stinger concept of one of the company's popular SUVs. The Tiago EV and the Tigor EV draw power from an electric drive system developed and supplied by Electrica EV. It is the 14th edition of the biennial Auto Expo and will see 24 new launches and over 100 unveiling of vehicles. The scooter sports an LED headlamp, two new colours and a few other updates, and will be launched next month with a minor price hike. The much awaited Civic will be available in both petrol & diesel engine options when launched in India.

The expo was attended by renowned personalities like Bollywood Actor Shahrukh Khan at Hyundai stand supporting the government's swatch Bharat Campaign, Actress Sonakshi Sinha, Former Indian Captain Mohammed Azhrudin & Cricketer Gautam Gambhir were also spotted at the Auto Expo. But what makes it special this time, is the unveiling of an electric version as well. It also unveiled two scooters - "Maestro Edge 125" and "Duet 125". Hero Electric, the country's largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, unveiled three of its global products in India.
