The company's latest hardware product arrives for pre-order customers and in stores on Friday, a late entrant in the smart speaker market led by Amazon.com Inc's Echo devices and Google's Home gadgets.
"Hey Siri, read my last text message" sounds like a helpful ask, but considering a roommate, kid or someone else in your house could ask for such information too, it raises privacy concerns.
Apple Music can be controlled by voice commands to Siri. Siri also allows users to control HomeKit smart home accessories. What do these home assistants think of each other? If you ask your Echo a question, for example, you can see that - and the answer Alexa gave - in Amazon's Alexa smartphone app.
The debut of the company's first-ever smart speaker places Apple in running to dominate your digital household devices with both Google (Home) and Amazon (Echo). The voice assistant lets users control song-playing, smart home appliances, helps with schedules, translations and sets up reminders.More news: Midwest pounded by heavy snow
Google Assistant has multi-voice support to provide individuals' schedules, playlists, traffic details, and other personalized data upon request.
Two weeks ago, Apple invited me to a "listening party" for its new HomePod speaker in downtown Manhattan. Also, the primary service on HomePod is Apple Music.
"Indeed, the perception out there is that Siri, despite being on tens of millions of iPhones and the first virtual assistant to make a name for itself, just isn't as smart or useful as Alexa and the Google Assistant".
The hands-free options the HomePod offers are wide ranging; in the right office environment, the device can add convenience, save time, and improve productivity, not to mention morale. Users can play music from Apple Music or use their to stream content directly from their music library using Siri.
With the Apple HomePod seemingly struggling to compete with the other two speakers on an even footing, it is important to emphasize at this point that this speaker does have its advantages in the Apple HomePod vs. Amazon Echo vs. Google Home war.More news: Tech's Josh Pastner faces sexual assult lawsuit
Apple's speaker comes with a mesh, spongy fabric for its aesthetic and acoustic performance.
The Google Home Max features an acoustically transparent fabric, two 4.5-inch woofers, sealed rigid housing and two custom tweeters. Those homes with more than one Google speaker can utilize them to broadcast a message, which will play across any Google Home device located within your dwelling.
HomePod is available now in white and space grey, for $499, from the Apple website and in stores.
The 6.8-inch tall HomePod uses an advanced algorithm that is touted to continuously analyse the music and tune the low frequencies dynamically. Building on the artificial intelligence capabilities that Google has promoted so strongly recently, it is disappointing that the Google Assistant has a smaller number of actions available compared to the Amazon system. But it's a very fine speaker that has earned high marks from reviewers.More news: India hopes to see Palestine becomes sovereign soon: PM
