Karate Kid YouTube Sequel Series Cobra Kai Gets a Trailer

16 February 2018

Brace yourselves 80s babies, because the legendary rivalry between the original Karate Kid's Daniel "Daniel-san" LaRusso and Johnny "Sweep the leg" Lawrence is returning to the small screen this year via YouTube's premium streaming service. We also see memories of the past, including newspaper clippings of LaRusso's stunning upset in the All-Valley Karate Tournament, Lawrence on a Cobra Kai flyer encouraging sign-ups, and young men and women undergoing karate training.

The series debuts on YouTube later this year.

Released in 1984, The Karate Kid told the story of high-school senior Daniel LaRusso, who moves with his mother from New Jersey to Los Angeles, where he nearly immediately comes into conflict with Johnny, the top student at the unscrupulous Cobra Kai dojo, and his gang. The underdog sports movie was popularized by Rocky less than a decade earlier, but The Karate Kid stood out among them. "Johnny, you and I.this, we aren't done", he says in the teaser. Ralph Macchio is also back as Daniel, and his rivalry with Johnny is far from over.

Cobra Kai takes place in present day, where the former karate championship opponents are now adults struggling to find balance in their lives.

"We do not train to be merciful here", Johnny said. Even after his sensei attacked him at the beginning of The Karate Kid Part II, Johnny still hasn't learned his lesson.

Daniel and Johnny are nursing old wounds with the ferocity only middle-aged men with too much time on their hands can foster. This time, the question is not how to stop the school from reopening - but whether Johnny and Cobra Kai should be stopped at all.

Other stars expected to appear include Xolo Maridueña, Miguel Diaz, Tanner Buchanan, Robby Keene and guest-star ed Asner.
