Raiders to release high-price CB Smith

Also Monday morning, The Los Angeles Times reported that Smith, 30, is expected to serve jail time for his role in an altercation that occurred previous year in Pasadena. Last Monday, the Raiders released Smith from his contract.

The Raiders announced March 5 they released Smith after he played just one season for the team.

Newhouse started 14 games last season for the Raiders but new coach Jon Gruden said at the combine that the play at right tackle last season was inconsistent.

The Los Angeles Times' Nathan Fenno reports free agent CB Sean Smith will be sentenced to one year in jail as part of a plea deal for his felony assault charge. While under contract with Oakland in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he hadn't appeared in a regular-season game since 2015.
