Virginia jobless rate dips to 3.5 percent

Illinois' unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent in February as the state set a new record for total jobs.

Payrolls were up in 11 states - including MA - and was essentially unchanged in 39 states and the District, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Nebraska's February unemployment rate was 2.8 percent, down from 2.9 percent in January and 3 percent in February 2017.

The U-S unemployment rate for February was 4.1 percent. In the past twelve months, employment and unemployment were down by 11,000 and 21,000, respectively.

The state's unemployment rate is well below last February's rate of 5.3 percent, and it's also below the national jobless rate of 4.1 percent. The professional and business services sector saw the largest increase: a net 8,300 jobs. Unemployment in the city was 6.7 percent in January.

February unemployment rates for the Richmond region and other localities are scheduled to be released on April 4.

"Minnesota's unemployment rate is at a level last seen in August 2000", DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy said in a prepared statement. These numbers are based on a survey of employers.

The county has added almost 28,000 jobs since February 2017, officials reported. 2,080,339 people were counted as employed, up from January's count of 2,079,876, and up from February 2017's count of 2,060,841.

"This is a tremendous new milestone for the commonwealth's economy and affirms our efforts to fill the jobs of the 21st century with a first-class workforce", said Northam.

The Associated General Contractors of America said national construction jobs rose as well last month, up 61,000 month-over-month and 254,000 year-over-year to reach almost 7.2 million.

The only major month-over-month decline occurred in trade, transportation and utilities, down 2,600 to 227,700.

"LFPR was realized as 72.5 percent with 0.5 percentage point increase for male and 33.6 percent for female with 1.1 percentage point increase", the institute added.

Manufacturing added 12,000 jobs in both durable goods and nondurable goods. In the third quarter of 2017, average weekly wages were down 1.1 percent over the previous year, ranking 28th among the states.

Other Services added 300 (+0.2 percent) jobs over the month.

Mitch Kokai, policy analyst for conservative think tank John Locke Foundation, said "it's unclear whether the headline unemployment rate can drop much lower".
