Apple Inc. on Tuesday said it added support for its Pencil digital stylus to its entry-level iPad as the device maker tries to shore up its dwindling share of the US education market. The cheapest 9.7-inch option in the UAE starts at Dh1,299.
Schools, meanwhile, can purchase the new iPad starting at Dh1,294.65 and the Pencil for Dh359.10.
It vastly expanded those offerings today, updating iWork - which includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software - to allow students to take handwritten notes more easily, along with adding more free storage space on its iCloud service. There's also an HD FaceTime camera up front, and - of course - Apple Pencil support right out the box.
What's especially interesting is the iPad's support of augmented reality (AR) through Apple's ARKit.More news: United Kingdom regulators search scandal-hit Cambridge Analytica's offices
After the LA Unified iPad debacle, Apple doubled down on its efforts to teach students how to code - but in a programming language that only works on Apple and Linux devices. iOS 11 introduces powerful new features for iPad. Among them was Free Rivers, an app from the World Wildlife Fund, which lets a user view an environment and - based on a demonstration - see how building a dam affects the flow of a river.More news: Liverpool Fight Off Real Madrid Interest With Mega-Deal for Star
Apple today introduced an updated iPad, and it's coming to T-Mobile.
All of this is created to make Apple more competitive in the educational space, where Google has enjoyed a comfortable lead thanks to its cheap and easy-to-manage Chromebooks.
Apple Inc. is going head-to-head with Google in education, a market the iPhone maker helped pioneer but has let languish. In a bid for more speed, Apple says the a10 Fusion chip offers 40 percent faster CPU speed and 50 percent faster graphics performance when compared to the previous 9.7-inch iPad. It also comes loaded with all the apps you expect from Apple. Since then, the device has endured a roller-coaster ride, but with a noticeable decline. "It's important to us that you understand this data stays private", Apple's executives said.More news: Gareth Southgate Condemns England Fans' In-Stadium Conduct
