Herd Track and Field With Eight Athletes in Qualifying Position

The Wayne State College women's and men's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday, March 30 at the Fort Hays State Classic in Hays, Kansas.

To open the meet, Blake VerMulm won the 55 meter dash with his:06.95 clocking, while teammate Ben Dunlap finished 32nd with an:08.02 time.

The Bridgeport girls captured first-place in four events, including all three relays to finish with a team score of 59.

"Our boys team will finish about middle of the pack, but we have many individuals that will do well", said Lake Oswego coach Vince Kinney. Tafella's winning vault of 7 feet was one-and-a-half feet higher than the three second-place finishers, Cassidy Kirk of Pike County, Faith Branham of Lamar County and Jerilynn Gradic of Pike County, who each vaulted 5 feet, 6 inches.

He was the fastest in the 400-meter dash in 53.10 seconds. In the 1500 meters, senior Kelsey Horowitz finished first, followed across the finish by four consecutive Red Devil runners.

Suggs was also a part of the winning boys 1,600-meter relay team, which finished in 3:40.21. "Brianna Jason finished first in the pole vault with a height of 9' 0", and Lauren Carson came in right behind her with a second-place finish and a height of 8'6". Zyakiee Green racked up thirdplace points in the shot put with a best effort of 35-feet, 1.5-inches, while Tyrelle Jay finished fifth (34-6).

Fayetteville-Perry's 4×200 meter girls relay team (Cora Hansel, Alison Whitley, Tiffany Snider, and Paige Lockwood) placed runner-up with a time of 2:07.18. She ran a 12:00.11 in the 3,200-meter run, good for second and placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run, finishing in 5:45.75.

Eastern's Emma Brown ran for a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.9, and finished second in the 300 meter hurdle race with a time of 54.50. Kalen Dockweiler was champion in the 800 meter run. Meanwhile, Lebanon freshman Giahny Correa picked up a win in the 400-meter dash (1:09.0), and ShanAnn Simmons won the javelin throw (98-8) for the Cedars. "In the shot put finals, Klara Carter finished second with a distance of 31'-9" and Megan Wilke placed sixth (29'-1 1/2").

Alyse Henry, sophomore of Rock Springs, Wyoming, excelled in the 3000 meter steeplechase, winning with a personal best time of 11:32.66.

The girls 1,600-meter relay team of Robinson, Holdmeyer, Mia Reed and McKenna Jacquin also placed fifth.

Eastern's Cy Young placed fourth in the boys 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:20.50.

Washington's boys 400-meter relay team of Bender, Nate Busch, Johnny Duncan and Bryce Meyer also placed fourth.
