NCAA Tournament Predictions: Michigan vs. Villanova 4/2/18

03 April 2018

MI is the nation's No. 3 team in defensive efficiency and has held its five NCAA Tournament opponents to an average of 58.6 points per game.

More than 30 years later, and with plenty of help from Billy Donovan, Steph Curry and Steve Nash, to name a few, the Villanova Wildcats have officially made shooting the three a bona fide way to win a championship.

It's gotten them to the national title game for the first time since 1989. MI junior forward Moritz Wagner added that there is more work to be done and the team "didn't come (to San Antonio) to lose".

For the Wildcats, they came out of the gates on fire against Kansas, setting an NCAA record for 3 point shots made en route to a 16 point rollover of Kansas.

In the Wildcats' way is the Wolverines, with the combo of Moe Wagner and a maddening defense.

"I'll be honest with you we're still watching film".

Not sure I'll even bet this as I see Michigan as a small lean with the points, plus only a small lean on the over (maybe a small Michigan/Over parlay). We have a little bit of a plan in mind, but just so impressed with. "I think he's one of those players that you're not going to shut him down". It has been winning with defense, as it is allowing just 58.6 per game during this run. "If the stars aligned I thought MI had a shot this year".

BIG-TIME BRUNSON: Villanova will have the best player on the floor Monday night in Jalen Brunson.

The Wildcats not only boast the top adjusted offensive efficiency in the nation, they have one of the best offenses we've ever seen at this level.

MI has Mo Wagner, but Villanova has more of everything else.

Wagner might not follow the Villanova big men out to the perimeter on every occasion, but if the Wildcats are able to set screens at the right times and draw mismatches in the paint that the guards can exploit, it will lead to a handful of easy baskets.

Villanova 83, MI 71: Villanova was my preseason pick.

MI dispatched Cinderella Loyola-Chicago 69-57, overcoming a 10-point second half deficit, behind Moritz Wagner's 24 points and 15 rebounds.

"I like (the) way MI is coming together", Stevens said, via Perry A. Farrell of the Detroit Free Press. "Who wouldn't?" Simpson said.

MI had the nation's No. 3 defense efficiency-wise and put Loyola on lockdown in the second half, forcing the Ramblers into a rash of turnovers to race away. "It comes with it". MI was down as much as 10 to Loyola-Chicago in the semifinal, but Beilein and his staff just kept coaching and teaching - he's a stickler for fundamentals - encouraging to Wolverines to trust that shots would start to fall, and they'd be OK. MI has a great three-point defense.

Both teams were 1-2 when they make 10 three-pointers or more and give up 10 three-pointers or more in the same game.

Entering the field of 68 as the No.1 seed in the East region, Villanova has been the national title favorite since the tournament began. The Wolverines needed a second-half surge against Loyola to turn a 10 point deficit into a 12 point victory.
