Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is deleting his Facebook account

10 April 2018

"Facebook makes a lot of advertising money off this", Wozniak told USA Today by email. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook also did not shy from criticizing Mark Zuckerberg.

"It's turned into money but none is returned to you for providing your data", he said.

He added, "Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook and". Initially, it was reported that personal information for 50 million Facebook users had been compromised - the number was then adjusted upward to 87 million.

Facebook has recently come under fire over its handling of user data. When he announced his intent to not use Facebook anymore, he wrote, "I am in the process of leaving Facebook". "The truth is, we could make a ton of money if we monetized our customer - if our customer was our product", Cook said. "Apple has more safe methods to share stuffs about users".

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg, who is due to appear before a congressional panel on April 11, has characterized Cook's criticism as "extremely glib". "I can still deal with old school email and text messages".

The announcement from "The Woz" comes as Facebook continues try to contain the damage from the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

"To start, some members of Congress said they want Zuckerberg at the hearings to offer specifics about Cambridge Analytica - and Facebook's privacy practices writ large - even beyond the information the company has shared in recent weeks". While it claims to not sell personal information directly to advertisers, it relies on that data to better target ads.

He cited the companies' use of wide-scale data-collecting operations that are used to help sharpen ad targeting of the social media platform's users, online magazine The Drum reported.

In Facebook's (and Google's for that matter) perspective, they are providing a free service that is accessible to everyone.

It's true that most of the social network's users had no idea until now what the company was doing with their data.

Despite a smattering of high-profile defections, most Wall Street analysts don't expect a significant dent in Facebook's monthly user base of 2.2 billion worldwide.
