Sridevi Wins Best Actress National Award Posthumously for 'Mom'

The National Film Awards would be presented by Hon'ble President of India on May 3, 2018. She essayed the role of a mother who bends every rule and goes the extra mile to ensure justice for her daughter. AR Rahman talked about working with ace director Mani Ratnam identifying him to be somone who has a "sea of ideas" and how he enables his work to be organic and usable. Apart from bagging best actress award, Sridevi starrer Mom also won best background score which was given by Academy Award victor AR Rahman.

SS Rajmouli's Baahubali: The Conclusion has won for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

Just a few hours ago, the jury, that also has Mr. India director Shekhar Kapur, declared the list of winners for the 65 National Awards. It also won the best cinematography award.

Last year, Syam Pushkaran won the award for Best Screenplay (original) for Maheshinte Prathikaram. Jayaraj was awarded the Best Direction in the Feature Film category for the movie "Bhayanakam" and Nagraj Manjule won the award for the Best Direction in the Non Feature Film Category. "She would've been so happy today because even though she put a lot of effort into all her characters, Mom was a very special film for her", Mumbai Mirror quoted Boney Kapoor.

Sridevi, who made her comeback on the silver screen after 15 years with Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish (2012), was last seen in Ravi's revenge drama, Mom.

Sridevi had returned to Bollywood industry after a hiatus with the movie English Vinglish, before that she had played various roles in Hindi movies and shows. Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema. Sridevi's family has also released the statement to thank the jury members for giving the award to the late actress. In 2011, he won the award for Best Supporting Actor category.
