Harry Anderson, best known to audiences for his role as Judge Harry Stone on Night Court, died Monday at his home in Asheville, N.C. He was 65.

An Asheville police spokesperson Christina Hallingse told The Hollywood Reporter: "This morning at 6.41 am, the Asheville Police Department responded to the home of actor Harry Anderson where he was found deceased". Police said no foul play is suspected, but declined to give further details.

Harry Anderson played Judge Harry on the 1980's popular sitcom Night Court. After making a splash with numerous appearances on "Saturday Night Live", he had a lengthy recurring role on "Cheers" as Harry "The Hat" Gittes. "I worked the streets in San Francisco, and I did magic and special effects at the festival".

Mr. Anderson, who spent nine seasons presiding over a fictional Manhattan courtroom that played host to a steady stream of oddballs, was nominated for three consecutive Emmys, from 1985 to 1987. He actually started his show business career as a street magician, and fell into acting by some happy accidents.

"I was never really an actor", he said.

After "Night Court", Anderson had a starring role in the show "Dave's World", in which he played humorist Dave Barry.

Harry Anderson has sadly passed away. "I don't understand why guys have that Don Knotts syndrome of having to be out there", he said. He often performed a one-man show - a mix of magic and humor - until Hurricane Katrina swept through.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Morgan, and he had two children from a previous marriage, according to IMDB. They had been married since 2000.
