Reuben Foster threw girlfriend's dog across room during domestic-violence incident

09 May 2018

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office is proceeding with its case against Foster even though the alleged victim of the domestic violence, Elissa Ennis, has said through her attorney that she made up her allegations against Foster because she was angry with him. She has since recanted her allegations that led to the second-year linebacker's February 11 arrest at their Los Gatos home. It remains to be seen whether authorities will go ahead with the charges or drop them.

Foster was charged with domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime and possession of an assault weapon after the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department responded to a possible disturbance at a Los Gatos, California, home on February 11.

During the fight, she told police that Foster 'punched her in the head 8 to 10 times, ' rupturing her eardrum.

The most vivid details come from the police interview with Ennis, 28, who said that she and Foster, 24, began arguing the night before, at which point he threw her dog across the room. He is also charged with attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, another felony. She later issued a statement through her attorney saying her injuries were the result of a fight with another woman.

Foster told police at the scene that he did not hit Ennis or throw her out, although he said he did destroy her cell phone. The latter is responsible for the weapons charge against Foster.

When police arrived, they found a SIG Sauer 516 short-barreled rifle, a loaded.38 caliber revolver and said that the home smelled of marijuana.

Bentley told Judge Nona Klippen that Foster is pleading not guilty to the three felony charges he faces, and that the 49ers linebacker wants a preliminary hearing to be held within 10 days, as is his Constitutional right to a speedy trial.

Ennis soon after flagged down a passing motorist, who helped her call 911 again, prompting the response from the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police. Foster was arrested for marijuana possession in his home state of Alabama on January 12, almost one month before he was charged with the three felonies. "In a statement through attorney Stephanie Rickard, Ennis said those allegations were "based on lies" and that "(Foster) did not strike her, injure her or threaten her". The 49ers general manager also dubbed Foster a potential 'Hall-of-Fame talent, ' which plays a factor in his standing with the team amid his legal case. We do feel like patience is the right approach right now.

That video caused a delay in Foster's plea hearing on April 30 when the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office requested time to examine it.
