Lowest price ever for Echo Show at Amazon

08 June 2018

Both Amazon's Echo smart speakers and rival Google Home devices can route commands to each company's streaming stick, and television makers and cable providers offer their own voice capabilities. The company calls it the Fire TV Cube which is a handsfree box capable of streaming 4K Ultra HD content with Alexa voice controls.

The Fire TV Cube is built nearly like an Echo, which means it includes eight far-field microphones so you can talk to it directly without needing a remote and it can hear you even over the sound of the television.

The Fire TV Cube features far-field voice recognition technology with a total of eight microphones and an internal speaker.

Announcing the new device, Marc Whitten, Vice President of Fire TV says "We believe voice makes it easier for customers to control their entertainment systems and watch the TV and movies they care about".

'And, it's just the beginning.

Amazon has unveiled the latest addition to its Fire TV lineup. For people who have stereo components inside a cabinet, the Fire TV Cube ships with a separate IR extender for just that objective.

Unfortunately a "traditional Amazon Fire TV experience" also extends to there being no official YouTube app, which puts something of a dampener on the idea of the Fire TV Cube being the one home theatre device to rule them all. Amazon Prime members can pre-order Fire TV Cube on June 7th and 8th at a special price of $90 and it can also be pre-ordered together with the recently announced Amazon Cloud Cam for USA $199.98.

It "suppresses" noise and competing speech to make sure 'Alexa clearly hears your request, even next to your TV, ' Amazon said.

About the UI of the box, Amazon says that it works to deliver "content forward" with actions and operations surrounding the wirelessness of the Fire TV Cube. The Fire TV Cube, however, is more like a set-top box and sits in front of your screen.

Fire Cube TV uses remote control-style infrared signals and an HDMI physical connection to navigate among set-top boxes, sound bars and the TV itself. You can even search for TV and movies by director or actor. It also supported voice and visual input, though in a more rudimentary form than Alexa's more developed set of skills.

Other highlights include access to thousands of apps from the Amazon App Store - such as streaming services HBO, Showtime, and Starz - through Amazon's a la carte Amazon Channels service.
