The local Broward Sheriff's Office told TMZ that "at least one of the suspects fired a gun and struck the rapper before fleeing in a dark-colored S.U.V. Mr. Onfroy was transported to a local hospital".

Rapper XXXTentacion has died after being shot on Monday.

Prosecutors reportedly believe the musician - by way of recorded calls he made in jail - attempted to coerce his girlfriend into dropping her case against him. In addition, the department confiremd the victim was indeed the 20-year-old rapper.

The search is on for whoever shot and killed a popular South Florida rapper outside a Deerfield Beach motorsport dealership.

The footage shows witnesses attempting to check the rapper's pulse, but shows no obvious signs of bullet wounds or blood.

The shooting took place in Deerfield Beach, about an hour north of Miami.

Broward County deputies are actively looking for the two men and asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward, the officer said.

The rapper, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, apparently shared a monologue with his followers where he talked about the eventuality of his death. XXXTentacion was facing numerous felony charges and was involved in a number of feuds, but it was not known that his life was in danger.

The rapper, whose grim, often suicidal rhymes propelled him to the top of the U.S. chart just months ago, was said to have had his second album debuted in March at the top of the Billboard charts.

Soon after release, he was again arrested on charges that he attacked his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time.

And J. Cole said, in part: "RIP X. Enormous talent and limitless potential and a strong desire to be a better person".

"This got me f-ked up".

Last month Spotify backpedaled on a planned anti-hate policy to remove XXXTentacion's music from its playlists, along with R. Kelly.

Soon a video was shared on Twitter by an apparent onlooker at the scene, in which a man who looks like the rapper sitting unconsciously in the front seat of his vehicle as someone checked his pulse.
