Jordan insists he didn't know about alleged OSU sex abuse

06 July 2018

Guest host Leland Vittert, filling in for America's Newsroom anchor Bill Hemmer, was speaking with a panel of media guests during a segment of the show's second hour about recent allegations against Jordan by former Ohio State wrestlers who claim he was dismissive of sex abuse claims involving former team doctor Richard Strauss in the 1990s. "I believe him. Jim Jordan is one of the most outstanding people I've met since I've been in Washington", Trump said to reporters during a brief gaggle aboard Air Force One on Thursday. No question in my mind. It began with accusations by three former wrestlers coached by Jordan and a firm denial by the co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus and perhaps-aspiring Speaker of the House.

A former Ohio State University wrestler told Fox News Thursday that starting in March, he sent a series of emails to Jordan about his alleged cover-up of the abuse, urging him to speak out about the doctor's actions. Jim Jordan's office will contact Capitol Hill police after receiving emails from an alleged victim of sexual abuse at Ohio State University when the Ohio Republican was an assistant wrestling coach, a source within the office told CNN Wednesday. "But at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn't know what was going on".

In addition to stating that he had no knowledge of any reports of abuse during his time as a coach, Jordan has, as noted, said that he's never been contacted about these charges.

"For God's sake, Strauss's locker was right next to Jordan's and Jordan even said he'd kill him if he tried anything with him", Yetts said. Dailey told NBC that Jordan participated in discussions in which the subject of Strauss' behavior came up. I believe Jim Jordan 100%.

"And look, if there are people who are abused, then that's bad and we want justice to happen", he added in his remarks to Politico. Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at the time Strauss is alleged to have groped male athletes.

Ohio State has not released details about the claims but said more than 150 former students and witnesses have been interviewed so far. "It was very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your trousers down". The congressman said his office has no record of such outreach and he is willing to talk with investigators but had nothing scheduled as of Wednesday.

Fury said Jordan's office was unable to locate any messages from Trafford.

Dr. Strauss's inappropriate touching of athletes was open knowledge, he said, and he remembered talking about it with Mr. Jordan on road trips, in the sauna and after practices.
